Become a contributor

Many of our projects are open source and we are always excited to welcome new contributors.

We expect all contributors to follow our code of conduct, identify with our team values, and share our passion to accelerate science!

Set up a call with a team member so we can learn more about you and your interests, and brainstorm what projects you may be a good fit for. From there, you may be invited to our team slack and optional team meetings to meet everyone else. We're looking forward to it already!

Team values

Code of Conduct

Accelerate seeks to enable Open Science and FAIR data resources. The community we create should reflect those values and create a space where everyone feels welcome and invited to participate. In our Community Participation Guidelines, we will outline what exactly that entails for members of our community.

Our team is composed of talented and intelligent collaborators. We want to recognize, appreciate, and respect everyone and their contributions. To do so, we have created a set of guidelines that everyone will be held to. In this group, we value:

  • Communication
  • Transparency
  • Regular meeting participation
  • Kind, constructive feedback
  • Creating a safe space where team members feel supported
  • Clear priorities and expectations
  • Collaborating to achieve our goals in creating great science

Expected Behavior:

  • Communicating regularly, clearly, and respectfully
  • Transparency on problems and processes
  • Using Slack for asynchronous communication while respecting team members’ time
  • Keeping track of team decisions so the project can continue moving forward
  • Celebrating failure and being honest with ourselves and each other when things are not working
  • Giving and receiving feedback that is kind and constructive
  • Setting clear expectations for roles, responsibilities, and priorities
  • Respecting people’s time and agency
  • Setting and delivering on expectations
  • Celebrating each other’s achievements as a team; A win for one person is a win for all

Inappropriate Behavior:

  • Providing criticism that isn’t constructive or actionable
  • Making a huge ask of someone last minute
  • Being unclear about expectations, priorities, and responsibilities
  • Being unsupportive of team members
  • Discouraging curiosity
  • Hiding or concealing mistakes and failures
  • Allowing personal interests and goals to dominate activities
  • Not holding ourselves and each other accountable
  • Unprofessional communication or actions that make our community an unsafe or uncomfortable space

Reporting Inappropriate Behavior

Please do not hesitate in reporting inappropriate behavior. We want our community to be a safe and welcoming space for everyone. Privately message Ben Blaiszik via Slack or email to discuss the violation of our Community Participation Guidelines. Action will be taken to ensure the community’s values are followed.
